BendBroadband’s JAZZ AT THE OXFORD ANNOUNCES 2012-13 SERIES

World-Class Lineup Highlights 3rd season of intimate jazz weekends at downtown Bend’s The Oxford Hotel

Bend, Ore. (September 12, 2012)

The Oxford Hotel  and G2 Strategic today announced a world-class lineup of some of the most respected jazz and blues musicians to headline the third season of BendBroadband’s JAZZ AT THE OXFORDBendBroadband’s JAZZ AT THE OXFORD is a monthly jazz series at Bend’s intimate The Oxford Hotel, featuring three shows on one weekend per month, beginning October 19, 2012 and running through March 16, 2013.

Full series tickets are available now, on-line at  www.jazzattheoxford.com, where detailed artist and show information is provided.  Single show tickets will go on sale on September 21st.

“We are thrilled to be bringing artists of this stature to Bend,” said Executive Producer Marshall Glickman, whose company, G2 Strategic, launched the series three years ago.   “The quality of our shows is extraordinary” added Glickman.  “We put a premium on sound quality, the intimacy of the room, top-notch food and beverage, and personal service.  We are proud that the series features a range of styles, from blues to bebop to contemporary jazz”.

Glickman, former president of the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers, is a Bend resident with a longtime passion for jazz, and whose 12-year old son, Laz, plays jazz piano.

“We are thankful to the Bend-based companies that are supporting BendBroadband’s JAZZ AT THE OXFORD,” added Glickman.  “These are businesses that care deeply about the quality of life in Central Oregon, the vibrancy of downtown Bend and the cultural enrichment of our community.”  JAZZ AT THE OXFORD’S sponsors include BendBroadband, who has obtained title sponsorship to the series, and supporting sponsors US Bank, Douglas Fine Jewelry, Central Oregon Radiology and The Source Weekly.

World-Class Lineup

October 19-20:  Portland Blues Review featuring LaRhonda Steele and special guest appearance by blues icon Curtis Salgado

The series of six jazz weekends at downtown Bend’s The Oxford Hotel will kick-off with a special performance by the all-stars of Portland’s blues scene.  This group has been assembled exclusively for BendBroadband’s Jazz at the Oxford, and will feature two very special guests – award-winning vocalist/songwriter/harmonica icon Curtis Salgado and soulful vocalist LaRhonda Steele.  The Review will be backed by a sizzling rhythm section, featuring Louis Pain on the B-3 Organ, Tim Bryson on saxophones, Edwin Coleman III on drums and extraordinary Chicago-raised blues guitarist Peter Dammann

November 23-24:  Trumpeter Jeremy Pelt

The series continues on Thanksgiving weekend with Jeremy Pelt, Downbeat’s ‘Rising Trumpet Star” five years in a row.  “Pelt’s music harkens back to the great trumpet players like Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan,” said Glickman.  Pelt will be accompanied by Portland’s finest players — Mel Brown on drums, Tony Pacini on piano and bassist Ed Bennett.


December 22-23:  Patrick Lamb’s Holiday Soul

Saxophonist Patrick Lamb will bring his new seven-piece band to the series, for his special ‘Holiday Soul’ performance. Patrick’s new band includes keyboardist George Mitchell (Diana Ross), Tyrone Hendrix on drums (Stevie Wonder), bassist Ben Jones(Neville Brothers, Anita Baker), guitarist Tomo Maruta and vocalists Ione Chaco and Kristin Marie.


January 18-19:  Karrin Allyson

Multi-Grammy nominee, pianist and acclaimed singer Karrin Allyson takes the stage for the new year.  For her appearances in Bend, Karrin will be joined by popular Portland-based guitarist Dan Balmer, Scott Steed on bass and drummer Todd Strait.


February 22-23:  Mel Brown Septet

Portland’s “Gentleman of Jazz,” drummer Mel Brown, returns to the stage in February.  This time, however, Mel is bringing the big horn sound of his entire Septet, featuring four horns – Renato Caranto on tenor sax, Derek Sims on trumpet, Stan Bock on trombone and John Nastos on alto sax — backed by a fabulous rhythm section of Gordon Lee on piano, Andre St. James on bass and, of course, Mel on the drum kit.


March 15-16:  Tom Scott & California Express

Tom Scott & California Express close out the 2012/13 season of BendBroadband’s JAZZ AT THE OXFORD. Mr. Scott is a 14-time Grammy nominee and 3-time winner, who is a prolific saxophonist, musical director and composer.  He is recognized as an icon in the music industry. His memorable solos have contributed to huge pop records over the years, including Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark, Rod Stewart’s Do You Think I’m Sexy, Blondie’s Rapture, Whitney Houston’s Saving All My Love For You, Steely Dan’s Aja, Carole King’s Jazzman and Paul McCartney’s Listen To What The Man Said.  Tom has served as music director for the Academy Awards, the Emmy Awards, the Carol Burnettt Show, the People’s Choice Awards and for legendary artists Joni Mitchell, George Harrison and Olivia Newton-John.  For his performances in Bend, Tom will bring his west coast band, California Express, featuring Gilbert Castellanos on trumpet, Josh Nelson on keyboards, Trey Henry on bass and Gene Coyle on drums.


Showtimes

All performances occur on Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 5pm and Saturdays at 8pm, except December 22-23 will occur Saturday at 5pm, Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 6:30pm.  Each performance will run two and a half hours, including a 30-minute intermission.
