CSKA Moscow Seeking to Develop Muliti-Purpose Arena and Soccer Stadium
RTKL Sports Retained to Develop Preliminary Plans
Moscow—March 31, 2006—G2 Strategic announced today that they have been retained by CSKA Moscow, Russia’s premier basketball club, to assist them with the development of a new indoor, multi-purpose arena and a soccer stadium, as part of a major regeneration project on the site of the current Torpedo Stadium, home of Football Club Moscow. CSKA Moscow Basketball Club is owned by Norilsk Nickel, once of the world’s largest minors, who account for approximately 4% of Russia’s exports.
G2 Strategic CEO Marshall Glickman said, “I have worked with CSKA periodically over the last 3 years, after meeting them as a result of G2’s engagement with Euroleague Basketball since 2002. They are one of Europe’s most forward-thinking sports organizations, with the vision and resources to pull off a project of this magnitude.”
RTKL Sports has been retained by CSKA, based on G2’s recommendation, to develop preliminary plans, including an overall masterplan for the site, conceptual design, floor plans, elevations and a building program that will formulate the basis for the project. As part of this initial assignment, G2 Strategic and RTKL will work with construction management and civil engineering firms in Moscow to determine conceptual cost estimates, construction scheduling and civil issues relating to geotechnical, topographical, environmental and other technical issues.
RTKL’s sports group is led by Ron Turner, FAIA, who is known internationally as one of the leaders in sports facility design, has worked on such notable projects as Staples Center (Los Angeles), Safeco Field (Seattle), Miller Park (Milwaukee), United States Tennis Association master plan (New York), Gund Arena (Cleveland), Paul Brown Stadium (Cincinnati), Nationwide Arena (Columbus), Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia), Saitama Dome (Japan), LG Seoul Dome (Korea) and many others. RTKL is currently working on the Beijing World Exhibition & Sports Center (China), the David Beckham Academy (London), LA Live (downtown Los Angeles urban renovation project) and others.
“We are very pleased that Marshall has agreed to help us with this ambitious project,” said CSKA Deputy CEO Alexander Pak. “His company offers us considerable experience in venue development and management and we expect that Marshall will play a very active role in the design, business and marketing aspects of this world-class project.”
“I have worked on several projects internationally,” said RTKL’s Turner. “However, the opportunity to work in Moscow is, indeed, something very special. And, we are really pleased to be reunited with Marshall, who we worked with in the early 90’s. It will be fun to collaberate with a team that has the vision to consider new solutions, both to form and function. We all want a cutting edge design, appropriate for one of the world’s great cities, that provides the flexibility to host a wide variety of sports and entertainment events for decades to come.”
